It took a while but I found something I love doing. I’m not one of those guys that wanted to be a photographer at the age of 6. In fact, when I was a teenager, my mother bought me a pocket camera and I figured film was over-priced so it just gathered dust. Between then and now I was a chess player and a corporate accountant and I was called several other things I might mention to you one day when we are sitting at a bar and I am crying into my beer. When digital cameras came out I thought hmm…this could be fun. I tried it and yup, it was. And three weeks later, here we are. OK, not three weeks exactly, but several years seemed like they were compressed into three weeks.
Why portraits – I mean there are landscapes, and insects and wild tigers and amazing places in the world and sports and a million and one other types of photography. Well, take a look at my portraits and I hope that you’ll see why. I don’t think I have to travel a million miles to find amazing people to photograph. They are right here, doing regular everyday things, just waiting. For me, the portrait is a personal impression of the person at her best, funniest, most human. You can’t make that common human connection with a beach or a bee. OK, maybe you can make it with a tennis player so one day maybe I will do sports photography but don’t hold your breath.
So why should I photograph you? Probably the best reason to have me photograph you is because I always bring plenty of snacks to the photo session. Secondly, I’m cheap…ok that’s not true but I do wear funny hats….ok that’s not true either. What was I talking about? Oh yeah…a recent client put it better than I ever could. She said I made her family look special. To me all my clients are special. I look for the special. I seek it hither and thither and when I find it, I make friends with it and take a picture or two.
